Pixii Max Digital Rangefinder Camera

Pixii is back with a new camera. And this time, it looks like it won’t take 18 months to come to market. The Pixii Max presents a significant upgrade over the original Pixii. The price doesn’t appear to have changed too much from the original, though.

Not everyone was happy with the original Pixii. It had a low 11.1-megapixel resolution and an APS-C-sized sensor. The resolution was addressed with the 26MP Pixii Plus in 2021, and now we’ve got a full-frame version of Pixii’s Leica M mount digital rangefinder.

Pixii Max – Still no LCD

When the Pixii was first launched, one of its selling points was that it had no LCD on the back. This meant you couldn’t chimp your screen every two seconds and had to actually learn how to shoot. For those who knew how to shoot, this brought back feelings of the old film days.

This trend continued with the Pixii Plus and now with the Pixii Max. Of course, the Pixii Max has some nice upgrades over the company’s original digital rangefinder – mostly thanks to its new 24-megapixel full-frame sensor. Naturally, as there’s no LCD, it has no video capabilities.

Not abandoning APS-C

The company says that despite now announcing a full-frame camera, they won’t be abandoning their APS-C cameras or customers. Going forward, the company will support both formats equally, which makes sense. Not everyone wants or needs a full-frame camera. Why cut off that market?

The new full-frame sensor of the Pixii Max offers a pixel resolution of 6064×4040, which makes for some nice big prints. The electronic shutter offers durations anywhere from as slow as 2 seconds to as fast as 1/32,000th of a second and an ISO range of 100 up to 25,600.

It’s a nice full-frame update for those who like the Pixii concept but want a larger sensor.

Price and Availability

The Pixii Max is available in black or “space grey”, each in two different capacities. As with prior models, there’s no memory card slot. Internal storage is all you get. This time, it’s 32GB for €3,999 and 128GB for €4,249. To pre-order, head to the Pixii website.
