Female photographers, you can now apply for Sony’s Alpha Female Program. And it’s free

If you’re a female photographer or filmmaker, Sony is currently offering a fantastic opportunity for you to advance your career. Its Alpha Female Program is now open for submissions and Sony will choose five professional creators who will win plenty of valuable prizes. And what’s more: application is completely free.
The creators who are selected will be given a $25,000 grant “to remove what’s been holding them back” and advance their careers. Additionally, each of them will be rewarded with another $5,000 worth of gear.
Other than financial reward, the selected photographers and filmmakers will receive mentorship from another successful female creator from Sony’s Artisans of Imagery collective. The program provides them with “extensive education opportunities,” as well as “networking events with other creators in New York and Los Angeles,” Sony writes. And on top of all that, they will have an exhibition of their work at the end of the program.
It’s important to note that signing up for the program doesn’t require you to use Sony gear. Also, you can apply no matter what your speciality is. Sony explains that the goal is to select five applicants “who can most benefit from the program.”
If you’d like to apply, you need to be a female photographer and at least 21 years old. Also, the contest is limited to legal residents of the USA and Canada. You need to submit the following information upon sign-up:
- Your current resume
- Up to one-minute video introduction of yourself
- Up to five (5) photos and/or video examples of what “Be Alpha” means to you
- A short written essay describing your biggest career challenge and how this program will help you overcome it
- A written pitch of how you would leverage the program to achieve your career aspirations and what the outcome would be
- A high-level budget plan (what you’d be spending the money on)
I think this is a great opportunity for female creators, considering that we’re rather underrepresented in photography and filmmaking industry. I only wish it was global, considering that there are plenty of fantastic female creators I know who don’t reside in the USA or Canada. Still, those of you ladies who meet the age and the residency criteria, I encourage you to sign up. The deadline is 7 October 2018, and you can read more detailed information via this link.

Nothing in the UK then?
Unfortunately, no. :( Only US and Canada.
Very cool. Something is better than nothing!
Where do we send this to?
