Exposure Software releases new update Exposure X7 of their all inclusive photo editor

The software company Exposure has just released their brand new update of their flagship software Exposure X7. As a direct rival to lightroom, Exposure X7 is a powerful RAW photo editing package the company say that it will handle anything you throw at it in terms of photo editing needs. New features include intelligent masking, selectable workspaces, unified crop and transform tools, improved noise reduction, and improved colour fidelity.

The Exposure software has been around for the past 15 years or so and was previously known as a Photoshop plug-in called Alien Skin Exposure. A huge change with the introduction of Exposure X5 brought it closer to rivalling applications such as Lightroom, and the latest version seems set to even try to out-do Photoshop.

Perhaps best known for its library of over 100 film simulating presets, Exposure is available as both a stand-alone editor and a Lightroom and Photoshop Plug-in, without the need for file organisation like LightRoom.

Some of the new features include:

• A new masking tool that makes it easy to separate a subject from the background. Simply draw a rough border in just a few clicks to indicate the selected area and Exposure’s intelligent algorithm creates a precise mask.
• Selectable workspaces organize the panels needed for a particular task. Use the built-in layouts for culling, editing, and retouching, or create your own customized workspaces.
• The crop and transform panels have been unified into a single easy-to-use interface.
• New composition guides – golden ratio, golden spiral, golden triangle, and diagonal.
• Defective pixel removal for raw photos.
• More faithful colour reproduction when using custom DCP colour profiles.
• Improved colour fidelity with DNG files.
• Fine texture noise can be added to recover detail with aggressive noise reduction.

All these, plus some considerable creative options that were available before such as brush tools, non-destructive layers and 3D colour masking make Exposure X7 a very viable alternative to the subscription-based Lightroom. The software is available for a free 30 day trial on the website and can be purchased as a one-off download for $129. If you already own the previous version of X6 the upgrade will cost just $89.
